How to get your (electric) bike ready for winter

Brrr, winter is coming. The temperature is dropping and the days are getting shorter. The end of the year is almost upon us and so is winter. With these 5 tips, you'll be able to hit the road safely in the coming months.

1. Take care of your battery

Are you putting your electric bike in storage for winter? Then make sure to charge your battery at least once a month. Ideally with a short ride in between.

Is it freezing? Then make sure to store your battery free of frost and moisture. Your battery can withstand some cold, this even slows down the aging process. But once it's freezing, there is a risk of condensation forming and it's better to avoid this.

2. Keep it clean

Extend the life of your bike by cleaning it regularly. When it rains or snows a lot of dirt gets between the chain and other parts, which can cause wear and tear.

It is best to clean your chain with a special degreaser and then apply chain oil. For your frame, al lyou need is some Some lukewarm water and washing-up liquid will do the trick.

3. Pump it up!

Pump up your tires now and then, but not too much because that could cause you to just slip faster. Slightly softer tires increase the tire surface area and improves your grip on the track.

4. Be visible

Winter means shorter days and longer nights, so being visible on the road is important. Make sure you are seen by other road users by wearing fluorescent clothing or strips. Check your lighting so that you too can spot the surroundings and that slippery spot in time.

5. Plan a maintenance

After a solid summer season, it is not an unnecessary luxury to reward your bike with a maintenance so that it is also armed against the winter weather. Be sure to have your brakes and all moving parts checked by a specialist.
